Overview
I’m Kyra, a Gift Officer and proud alum of King’s College, and I’m currently completing my Master’s in Strategic Communications. Over the last four months, I completed an internship that directly tied my day-to-day advancement work to strategic communication practices. This portfolio highlights the projects, outreach, planning, and experiences that shaped my internship and helped me grow as a communicator.
Learning Objectives
1. To gain general knowledge of personal and persuasive communication by engaging with alumni and donors through direct one-on-one interactions.
2. To learn firsthand the skills necessary to actively listen and communicate with diverse interest groups in order to determine the most effective engagement strategies.
3. To acquire an understanding of networking and relationship-building by participating in events that strengthen personal connections and assess donor interests.
4. To become familiar with persuasive writing techniques that engage donors and create excitement around institutional initiatives.
5. To acquire and understand effective data management practices that support communication strategies and inform donor outreach.
6. To gain a thorough knowledge of digital communication tools by building and teaching others to use online platforms efficiently.
7. To learn firsthand the steps necessary to launch a special interest campaign, including communication planning, donor outreach, and campaign tracking.
8. To become familiar with the challenges of negotiating change in communication strategies while collaborating with colleagues to update long-standing communication practices.
